About the Company

Midland Steel are a well-established, market leading steel fabricator in Ireland and the UK. They offer an extensive range of reinforcing steel products and services to the UK construction sector in a diverse range of sectors. The project aims to revolutionise the process of installing steel reinforcements for large cast concrete slabs. Midland Steel Reinforcement Supplies Ltd (MSRS) has developed a new product – Double Skinned Mesh (DSM) - for a project in response to a shortage of on-site skilled labour. We have developed the DSM product to prototype stage using a manual fabrication process – each sheet of mesh was assembled and welded manually and then two layers of mesh and chairs were assembled and welded manually. The aim of the next stage of the project, with FUSION support, is to develop a process and a machine specification to automate the fabrication process. DSM is a prefabricated solution that can reduce the on-site time required to install the steel by up to 75%. The aim of this project is to: · Carry out a technical and cost analysis for this new innovative product · Develop a specification for a machine to automate the prefabrication process for this new product · Develop a production strategy to optimise costs for this new product
