The proposed project will develop new innovative hybrid bitumen products. The challenge is to develop hybrid bitumens designed to withstand specific traffic and / or climatic conditions when used in asphalt road construction products. For example, the hybrid bitumen may be optimized for the Irish climate i.e. long periods of wet weather that could cause the aggregate / bitumen bond to fail leading to failure of the asphalt road construction product. The hybrid bitumen may be optimized for use in hot overseas countries such as the Middle East and Africa. The hybrid bitumens will benefit not only Irish and UK markets, but will also be exportable to countries around the world in which the company is currently active.
