AI for SMEs

InterTradeIreland wishes to appoint a suitably qualified service provider to deliver an independent strategic research project on AI adoption, opportunities, and impact for SMEs across the island of Ireland.

AI is increasingly seen as a key lever for improving productivity and competitiveness, but adoption remains uneven, with SMEs often facing barriers around capability, skills, cost, and confidence in how to implement AI safely and effectively. This research will provide an all-island view of current AI capability and existing initiatives, identify gaps and opportunities for collaboration, and assess where the most meaningful productivity and competitiveness gains could be realised for SMEs, including sectoral opportunities. It will also examine how public sector demand - such as procurement, open calls, and pilot programmes - can be made more accessible and impactful for SMEs.

The final report will give InterTradeIreland a clear evidence base and practical, actionable recommendations to inform future policy and programme development.
