Prof. Jim McLaughlin
Prof. Jim McLaughlin is the Director and co-founder of Ulster University's NIBEC. He is also currently heading up the £43M BCRD Centre for Digital Healthcare Technology-CDHT. A Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Iris-h Academy of Engineering, he was awarded a CBE in 2022 for Research&Education. He is a Senior Distinguished-Fellow and his world-leading Digital-Healthcare-Technology research addresses the integration of decision-making diagnostic algorithms with clinical sensing systems. Professor McLaughlin with a H-Index of 53, over 400 publications, 38 patents and over £100M of research funding he is also co-founder of various successful companies including Intelesens (former CTO/Dir), as well as Heartscape, SiSaF (former CTO/Director) and the initial phases of Heartsine (consultant).
Dr. Patrick Delassus
Dr. Patrick Delassus, Academic Director and PI at MET has been engaged in applied research for over 30 years, focusing on biomedical engineering, industrial and mechanical engineering, and diverse product design projects for industry. He has also over 10 years’ experience in engineering roles in industry. He leads the development of relations with medical device companies in the west of Ireland, tailoring and developing programmes to suit the needs of companies and their technical staff. He is actively involved in post-graduate research, disruptive technologies innovation fund and innovation partnership programmes with medical device companies and has patented several medical devices. Also, Dr Delassus has a very strong interest in working with industry specially on innovation and early-stage design development.
