Cross-Border Trade Statistics
InterTradeIreland closely follows and draws insights from cross-border trade statistics. Cross-border trade in goods is recorded by Ireland’s Central Statistics Office (CSO) on a monthly basis. Northern Ireland’s Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) records cross-border trade in goods and services on an annual basis.
Annual Cross-border Trade in Goods and Services, 2024
This data is taken from the Northern Ireland Economic Trade Statistics (NIETS) via NISRA.
This is released annually with a two-year lag. However, both goods and services data is available, giving a more complete overview of cross-border trade.
In 2024 total cross-border trade in goods and services was £14.6/€17.25 billion. NST was valued at £10.45/€12.35 billion and SNT was valued at £4.08/€4.82 billion.
Annual Trade in Goods, 2001-2025
Cross-border trade in goods was valued at €3.1/£1.9 billion in 2001. In 2015, it was worth €2.8/£1.9 billion. However, since 2015 growth in cross-border trade has increased dramatically; in 2022 it was valued at €10.4/£8.8 billion. In 2025 was worth €10.9/£9.3 billion.
Annual Trade in Goods and Services, 2011-2024
In 2024 total trade in goods and services was £14.6/€17.25 billion, a 17.74% increase from 2023. NST was valued at £10.45/€12.35 billion and SNT was valued at £4.08/€4.82 billion.
Total trade in goods was £10.93/€12.90 billion, while total trade in services reached £3.61/€4.26 billion.
