US-Ireland R&D Partnership

The US-Ireland R&D Partnership links researchers across Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United States to accelerate innovation in key sectors including health, energy and sustainability.

What is it?

The US-Ireland R&D Partnership is a tri-jurisdictional alliance which was officially launched in 2006. Its aim is to promote collaborative innovative research projects which create value above and beyond individual efforts. To date 99 projects have been successfully funded under the Partnership across key sectors. Government funding secured for projects to May 2025 is valued at $184.011 million or €159.630 million or £135.233 million.

US-Ireland R&D Partnership in Agriculture 2025 Call for new research applications

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture has published the 2025 Agriculture & Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Foundation Programme Request for Applications. The Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) are extremely pleased to confirm that the funding collaboration with the National Institute of Food and Agriculture will continue through the US-Ireland Research & Development partnership in Agriculture.

The Programme Priority Areas within the AFRI Foundation Programme RFA that are eligible for co-funding by DAERA and DAFM are confirmed. Please see below links to the relevant websites.

    The Partnership will help link scientists and engineers in partnerships across academia and support research collaboration by facilitating single integrated proposal submissions prepared by US, Ireland and Northern Ireland researchers through funding programmes operated by the funding agencies in each jurisdiction.
