Background
The All-Island Research Innovation Network (AIREN) brings together research managers and administrators from Queen’s University Belfast, University College Dublin and Ulster University.
Its aim is to develop cross-border connections between the three institutions and create an All-island Research Excellence Network, open to institutions across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Details of Synergy support
InterTradeIreland provided €19,400/£16,600 worth of funding towards the creation of the AIREN partnership, funding the delivery of away days, workshops and a launch conference. Funding was also provided for the development of a membership web portal.
Synergy project outcomes
The project will run from January 2021-2023, during which the three institutions will deliver the following:
- Share research management best practice and knowledge through virtual away days.
- Deliver workshops to identify and develop thematic research areas and funding opportunities to support cross-border activity.
- Establish an All-Island Research Excellence Network open to all universities, research organisations/institutes, industry, enterprise centres and research funding bodies from across Northern Ireland and Ireland.
- Continue to support the All-island Research Excellence Network through the launch of an AIREN membership web portal.
